#010: Change of Plan

Since putting a quick ad up over at The Escapist forums for freelance writer, I’ve been bombarded with messages and e-mails asking if people can write for Geeks of Gaming. Unfortunately, apart from literally one person, nobody actually sent over any sample reviews or articles for me to consider their work.

I’d just like to clarify here and now regarding applying and will post on the Guidelines page soon about it:

  • If you can’t be bothered to spell properly or use internet speak we won’t consider you at all.
  • It would help if you sent a sample review to us, or sent a link to any other blogs/websites you write for.
  • There are alot of people asking me questions already answered in the guidelines so please read them carefully before e-mailing.
  • Reviews should have a beginning (introduction to the game you’re reviewing), a middle (the actual opinion of the game, good and bad) and an end (conclusion, overall thoughts and feelings on the game). If you’re writing 500 word review, it’d be a good idea to try and put 100 words each to the intro/conclusion with the remaining 300 as the review.
  • Remember, none of us are paid professional journalists, we’re all learning and we’re eager to help budding writers get work published.
  • As it says in the guidelines you are welcome to go over the 500 word limit, but please stick as close to it as you can, so that we don’t end up with 3,000 word behemoths on the website.

PLEASE NOTE: The e-mail originally given out is BROKEN for some reason so for now please send all applications to biomedicalnerd [at] gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
